Departure from Marrakech by minibus to Zagora via Ouarzazate. We drive through the famous Draa Valley with its impressive palm groves, kasbahs, ksars and oases. In the afternoon, we continue to Oulad Driss, where we spend the night in a traditional kasbah in the middle of the oasis or in tents on the edge of the desert. Dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, we meet our camel drivers and load the luggage. The caravan departs toward the dunes, through a magnificent and wild landscape of sand dunes, dry plateaus, tamarisk and acacia trees, with the Jbel Zagora range in the background. Lunch under an acacia tree. We walk for about 5 hours into the large dunes of Sidi Naji. Camp near the Marabout in the middle of the dunes.
Today we leave Sidi Naji and walk along dried-up lakes lined with tamarisk trees. You are fully immersed in the Sahara, in one of the most beautiful dune areas in Morocco. After lunch in the shade of some trees, we continue toward the Erg Zaher dunes. After a glass of Moroccan tea, we climb the great dune to enjoy an unforgettable sunset. Camping under the stars in southern Erg Zaher. Approx. 6h walk.
A peaceful day: We resume the hike through the dunes heading northeast along the Draa River, which gradually disappears into the sand. The Ait Ounir dune slowly appears in a desert and wild landscape. Lunch and camp in Ait Ounir near the dunes. Afternoon walk or free time to read or relax on a dune. Approx. 4h hike.
Today we move through a dune landscape back toward the famous Draa Valley and the Ras N'khel palm groves near the village of Mhamid. Lunch under a tamarisk grove. In the middle of the dunes and palm trees, we spend our last evening with the caravan. Approx. 6h walk. Tent camp in Ras Nkhel.
Half an hour walk through the dunes to meet our minibus. Return to Marrakech via Zagora and Ouarzazate. Arrival at the hotel in the afternoon. Overnight at Riad Azalia.
